Extra examination proves that the specific license holder meets all the needs and requirements this license will be converted...
There have been rumors that Denmark is all set to open its internet gambling market however it was in 2010 that private operators in the field of online gambling received the hope that they would be permitted to compete with locals. In the past all online gambling in the nation was regulated by Danske Spil – a state owned authority. It is no wonder that Denmark made sincere efforts to safeguard its monopoly for as much time as possible.
Today the scenario has changed and new operators of online gambling require obtaining a license by the Danish Gambling Authority or the DGA. This is a mandate for them to provide their services. In order to provide Danske Spil an industry edge, the Government ensured that licenses issued to gambling operators offshore should be delayed to its maximum possible extent.
Taxation Governing Gambling Online and Offline
The Danish Gaming Duties Act is the prime document controlling all gambling activities in the nation. The above Act is in line with all the state aid rules of the EU due to its taxing conditions that are listed as favorable. This was concluded by the European Commission. Operators of online gambling need to pay 20% compared to gambling halls and casinos that are land based and need to pay a 75%v duty on the GGR or Gross Gaming Revenue.
Time Limit Licenses
DGA had to establish some specific rules after it expected a large applicant demand.
In case operators who would want their licenses to be valid with effect from the 1st of January 2012, they would need to render their applications before October 17th 2011. If they did not they would get their licenses a little later.
There is another condition and that is all the licenses are to be issued within a time limit of one year. The DGA has very little time for the evaluation of every applicant and this is why they permit operators to begin functioning right after the preliminary check up has been done. If extra examination proves that the specific license holder meets all the needs and requirements this license will be converted to one valid for five years. In this case, the applicant does not need to furnish any additional application.
Any license is subject to revocation if some of the requirements have not been met.
Process For Application
The list of requirements needs to be downloaded from the website of the DGA. There is a wide range of information that one needs to provide like the description of the gambling system, the list of employers who are to be responsible for the varied aspects of the business and more. Once the above has been done the applicant requires mailing the following forms after completing details-
In case all the requirements seem to be met, the applicant has to complete and mail the following forms:
The Application Form
Annex A – This is a personal declaration
Annex B – This provides Information about provision of gambling
The above three forms must be completed in Danish however applicants do have the option to download English versions from the website of the DGA. There is an application fee that should be paid and the amount depends upon the type of services the potential license holder intends to provide. It can range from DKK 50,000 to 250,000 or EUR 37,000 – 186,000.
